‘Pity the nation’ – Support Gaza this Christmas
The GLAS Christmas concert in the old town of Geneva is always a musical treat. Last year it was headlined by The Emigrants, an amazingly talented, multi-national ensemble playing a lively brand of traditional Irish music. Due to popular demand, we are bringing them back this December. Their sound is an exciting, winning blend of voice, fiddle, guitar, percussion, banjo, mandolin and bazouki. Check out this video from last year’s GLAS Christmas concert, which showcases the beautiful voice of Yvette Issar singing the Bonny Light Horseman.
The video below (available here on Facebook) features an extract of The Emigrants’ recent appearance on the RTS radio show Le kiosque à musiques.
Eoghan O’Sullivan, songwriter, guitarist and singer, who made his GLAS debut some years ago supporting Luka Bloom, will open the proceedings with his own inimitable repertoire of songs.
Come one, come all.
Proceeds from the evening will go to the Gaza School of Music, a branch of the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music, which continues to teach music and singing to thousands of children trying to find something good in a life that has become precarious and traumatic in the midst of mass killing, hunger, ethnic cleansing and mindless destruction of housing, health facilities and other critical infrastructure. The school building has been severely damaged with the loss of over 400 musical instruments.
Since 2016, with your generosity, we have raised over CHF 32,000 to support the musical education of children aged 6-18 but since the war funds raised go towards providing basic support to homeless students and staff.
